    JAWS Scripting Engagement Process

A typical JAWS scripting engagement begins with an assessment of the workflows required for the position. Whenever possible, this assessment should take place as early as possible—ideally before the employee begins training. Having the necessary accommodations in place from the start helps reduce delays and creates a smoother onboarding experience.

An existing relationship with the employer can help accelerate the process, but it is not required. Once the assessment is complete, I provide recommendations for remediation along with an estimate of the level of effort required to implement the necessary accommodations.

Initial Assessment and Kickoff Meeting

The assessment typically begins with a kickoff meeting involving key stakeholders, including:

The employee’s manager
A trainer or experienced employee who is thoroughly familiar with the position’s workflows
An IT representative who can address technical and system-related questions

During this meeting, we will:

Review the organization’s technical environment.
Discuss secure methods for accessing the required systems for assessment.
Gain a high-level understanding of the position’s day-to-day workflows and responsibilities.
Identify any potential accessibility challenges and discuss initial approaches for addressing them.

Whenever possible, I conduct assessments remotely to minimize travel time and associated expenses while maintaining an efficient and collaborative process.

Access and Security Considerations

Before the assessment can begin, organizations often need to complete internal security, compliance, and access approval processes. These requirements can vary significantly from one organization to another and may represent a substantial portion of the overall project timeline. Planning for these administrative steps early helps prevent unnecessary delays and allows the technical work to begin as quickly as possible.
